GIFTS OF A DIFFERENT COLOR
This honor goes to all the gifts we receive from our community that are not
necessarily of a monetary or food nature - (these are honored on the News Letter page or here on the donations
column, ) but rather a gift of a "different color" whether it be a service gladly given, a steady committment, a
donation of goods necessary for a client's survival, or a gift from the heart.
Lacey Food Bank clients have secret benefactors who have gifted
them with a variety of desperately needed items or services. From a brand new Christmas tree for a family with
five kids, house or appliance repair, a fridge for a family eating out of two ice chests -or a dryer
for a large famly, a car repair to keep somebody on the road and working, or bikes to enable clients to get around,
these are our (by their request) unsung benefactors. Add to that list all the secret Santas who adopt a family for Christmas
and it adds up to a community of those who do indeed, care & share. Thanks to all of you.
What a great guy Pat Allen is. Not only is he one of the first to
sign up as an esteemed sponsor each year, but he uses his many skills to perform volunteer handyman jobs for our elderly clients
- everything from fixing a screen door to replacing a light fixture or thermostat. Pat's our man !
Thanks to food bank trustee and CPA, Cynthia Pieja for all her pro bono work maintaining food bank accounts,
tax returns and filing all documents required annually by State & Federal agencies. Cynthia & husband Jon were
strong supporters of the food bank and we were lucky to have her step in when we sadly lost our former registered agent &
trustee , Lois Guthrie.
The new Lacey Food Bank Kids Committee collected more clothes and toys than
we had room for, so George Broome stepped in and as owner of Lacey Storage , solved the problem with the donation of a lovely
roomy unit. Now the LFB Kids committee happily runs back and forth stuffing it with all sorts of good things .
And thanks to a $500 grant from Kohls, the kids program has a good start for next year.
Another good friend of the food bank down at the Lacey Business park is Tom Trenholm,
owner of RegalPrinting "INKorporated". For the last several years, Tom has printed us thousands of fund raising fliers gratis
- which in turn have helped us raise many thousands of $$ to support the needs of the food bank.
We have a good friend at the Forked River Gazette. Thanks to Jennifer, the word has been
spread about our Memorial & Celebrations page. Thanks Jennifer for that and for publishing our schedule each month.
