FOOD & FOOD DRIVES

The Womens Club of Lacey holds a monthly collection of tuna fish for us and has hit the 1000 mark! The December total was 91 cans of tuna  for a grand total of 1,099 cans for the year (along with other appreciated pantry items and donations) and that's no fish tale!

Craving Cupcakes owner Denise Field combined a raffle with a food drive, resulting in several crates of food.

Our esteemed sponsors Pat & Al Carlson, who recently took up residence in our new senior community, Sea Breeze at Lacey, held a reverse garage sale, inviting everyone to participate in a garage "give-us-food" drive. They exceeded all expectations with this huge haul of food. Thanks to all our new friends and neighbors at Sea Breeze at Lacey.

Residents at Toll Brothers' Sea Breeze at Lacey collected a large amount of food for the LFB.  Thanks to this new friend of the LFB and to sales managers Patty Schmeling and Anne Marie McNally, and sales receptionist Carly Baldwin.

At the Annual Lacey Elks Lodge #2518 Parade, their youth group "The Antlers" walked the parade route with shopping carts collecting food donations.  These contributions, added to the food already collected by the club, tendered a substantial amount of groceries for the LFB - a whole van load!

LFB teen volunteers Dan McAvoy and Devin Osterman, along with adult volunteers Donna McAvoy and Maddie Stapleton, went to Cedar Creek School in November and collected bags, bags and more bags of canned tuna, chicken and other food items time and spent time sorting and shelving.

Two fine gentlemen from the Forked River Presbyterian Church's Youth Group and their leader Steve Lundy came by the LFB with a van load of food, 291 items in all, from their food drive along with $25 in cash.

At their December meeting, the members of the Fish Hawks Salt Water Anglers Club cast their lines and reeled in ten bags of groceries for the Lacey Food Bank.  They plan to continue this collection at every monthly meeting, and that's no fish tale!  Thanks to Ken Rylak for coordinating this excusion into deep sea donating.

Lacey High School is a major player in this war we wage against hunger.  The Student Government Association or the "SGA" is one of many benefactors we have at the high school and a good friend indeed.  The group holds an ongoing collection of food for us each fall, and two members of the group, Alex and Meagan, arrived at the LFB with a car load of groceries from the SGA this week.

Thanks to the children, staff friends & family  from the Goddard School for their holiday food collection.

Thanks to our FOFB "Rolling Thunder" for their food drive.

The Lacey High School Interact Club came to the rescue of the LFB in October by setting up a donation box in the lobby of the high school and collecting some 50 bags full of mmm, mmm, good soup!

The Residents at Sea Breeze held a  food drive in December.  Thanks to Al and Pat Carlson who organized the drive and collected the food in their garage.  Good neighbors making a difference!

The faculty at the Cedar Creek School held a food drive for the Lacey Food Bank this month. Having the school step up to help fill the shelves for our ever-increasing need for food supplies is very much appreciated.  And, thanks to Jen Bentley who organized the drive!

Brownie Troup 137 from Land of Pines School in Howell, New Jersey, filled 95 Halloween-themed snack packs for the Lacey Food Bank Kids Halloween distribution.

We salute the Boy Scouts of America Packs 35 and 156 who collected 451 bags of groceries, $20 and 3 large jugs of water for the Lacey Food Bank during their annual collection.

VFW Post 10018 held a successful food drive and donated a $240 check to sponsor a family.

The ongoing collections by our friends from the Forked River Presbyterian Church enrich our shelves. Additionally, the Hunger Action Team of volunteers buy and sort fresh produce each month, a very healthy & welcome addition for our clients. Pastor Terry also serves as a supportive  trustee to the food bank.

The tiny tots tots at the Precious Journey Preschool at the church held a food drive with the help of Director  Diana Turiano, .

The Village Lutheran Church has been a major contributor to the food bank stores with  Trustee Pastor Roy Minnick providing help from the beginnings of the food bank.

The Rotary Club gives all the families a full Turkey dinner at the Thanksgiving distribution, from cranberries, stuffing, turkey and pies... assisted by the Jr Rotarian service Interact Club from Lacey High School.

The Lacey Soccer Club gets out there twice a year and brings us  many many bags of food. The Club's 2nd Annual Christmas in August benefit marked the official start of the Lacey Food Bank Kids Christmas Campaign.  More than 95 new toys, games, books and art supplies were collected, as well as a $205.00 donation from the Snack Stand.

Silver Cloud Marina held a nautical flea market and collected $108 in donations as well as two boxes of food for the pantry.

Thanks to Craig at Manhattan Bagel who gives us huge bags of bagels for monthly distribution, a treat for all.

And to the good folks at Walmart for their monthly donations of assorted boxes of food.

Nancy Moody, owner of the Forked River Diner, sends us cases of cereal on a regular basis.

Janice Celmer is a one woman food drive, a consistant benefactor for the last several years, storesmaster Dick loves to see her pull up with her trunkload of food.

Lacey High's Student Government Association (SGA) collects food throughout the school year for the food bank.

Eileen Odom held her own food drive and came up with a trunkload of food for the storesmaster.

Brownie Troop 538, Forked River, gifted us with Girl Scout cookies. Thanks for the sweet treat girls.

Nicole Spaloss"s Troop 507 toured the food bank and brought food with them as a donation.

Thanks BS Troop 56 - for your March food drive

Laura Anderson. leader of Daisy Troop 78, brings us food donations.

GS Troop 238 used their cookie money to go shopping for food for us. They then delivered and sorted the items and in doing so each scout earned a GS Way badge "caring through sharing"

GIFTS OF A " DIFFERENT COLOR "

Rich Hauswirth is no stranger to the Lacey Food Bank and has been supporting us in many ways for many years. When he launched the November Hauswirth newsletter, the Lacey Food Bank was happy to be named as the beneficiary of the FACEBOOK LIKE CHALLENGE! For every new Facebook "Like", the Hauswirth & Sons Insurance Consultants would donate $1.00 to the Lacey Food Bank. How easy was that! You clicked and the Lacey Food Bank got a buck - $620 bucks! Thank you, Rich & Margaret Hauswirth, the Hauswirth Associates and all Hauswirth Fans who flexed their index finger and hit that LIKE button!

The office of Dr. McGillick from Wharfside Chiropractic has made it a holiday tradition to forgo Christmas Cards and instead, gifts the Lacey Food Bank annually with a check. Many thanks.

Lacey Food Bank and the Lacey Food Bank Kids Committee shared the spirit of Christmas at the Tenampa Restaurant, Forked River Girls Only Christmas Mix and Mingle to benefit WIIGGS and the Lacey Food Bank.  It was a double win with a carload of new toys and non-perishables for us and a new partnership of support from and for the women of Lacey Township.  Thank You Sharon Good of Tenampa Restaurant for generosity and hospitality!

Last month USCG Flotilla 7-9 came by to give us a check for $500 and promised to return. They are men of their word - they gifted our happy storekeeper with a second check for $500 just in time for the holiday. The Auxiliary has been very supportive of the Lacey Food Bank and for that we thank them.

Kathleen Canning and other district managers from the Wells Fargo Community Partners presented the Lacey Food Bank with a generous donation of $1,000.

The US Coast Guard Auxiliary has been a staunch supporter of the LFB.  They presented a check for $500 with the promise to return with another check in December.  With this gift they will be supporting two families for a year with monthly fresh supplementary food and $10 Shop Rite gift certificates.

The Intergenerational Club, comprised of seniors, teacher advisors and youngsters from all Lacey School District elementary schools, arrived at the LFB with a busload of non-food items, paper goods, cleaning supplies, soaps, detergents and more.  This is an ongoing donation they do for the Lacey Food Bank every year at the end of November.

Thanks Jim Jorgensen for the 7 cartons of adult Depends.

Tony Caporale, owner of Caporale Pet Supplies, Inc. in Waretown is another fine example of how the business community responds to our needs.  Tony has been transporting food for our food bank every month since the state put the kibosh on using open bed trucks.

C&R Plumming and Heating Inc. in Lanoka Harbor, a hometown business since 1978, is joining the Lacey food Bank Fight Against Hometown Hunger.  Starting 11/19/11 and running through 12/19/11 C&R Plumbing and Heating will make a contribution to the Lacey food Bank Kids for every LIKE on their FACEBOOK page.

More than 35 students of the Lacey High School Interact Club provided the manpower to pack and distribute complete turkey dinners to 205 families at the Thanksgiving food distribution on Friday. For more than 25 years, Thanksgiving Dinners complete with all the fixins' have been provided to needy families in Lacey, Waretown and Barnegat by the Forked River Rotary.  With turkeys donated by Walmart in Lanoka Harbor and the Lacey Shop Rite, the students from the Lacey High School Interact Club joined the volunteers of the Lacey Food Bank and 6 volunteers from WithumSmith+Brown PC Toms River Office to experience first hand a 21st century version of the shared harvest feast that served as one of the first Thanksgiving celebrations.

Thank you, Lacey Troup 506 for your donation of $250 to the Lacey Food Bank.

Thanks to the efforts of our liaison at Walmart, Ms. Doreen Padovani and to Walmart, Lanoka Harbor, General Manager, Mr. George W. Smith, for his continuing support, LFB Kids will have nearly $2,000 of Halloween costumes and accessories to wear including wigs, accessories and make up.

Recently, Food Bank Co-Chairman Laura was called to Town Hall to receive a check from the Municipal Alliance in the amount of $400.00 representing prize money that had been donated back from some very community-minded Lacey Township High School students who participated in the Lacey Municipal Alliance K5 and Family Run and WON!  Thank You and Congratulations on a race well run to LTHS students Danielle Leavitt, Abby Gauthier, Noah Jacobs and Ryan Flannery.

The Fish Hawks Salt Water Angler's Club members casted their lines and caught a $100 donation for LFB.  Now that's one that didn't get away!

The Hauswirth Insurance Agency, long time supporters and promoters of the Lacey Food Bank are collecting food, boots, hats, mittens and toys through December for the LFB Kids.  They are also donating one dollar for each "like" they receive on FACEBOOK.

The Lacey Food Bank Kids Christmas Campaign 2011 had a great start at the Lacey High School PTSA & Secretaries Craft & Vendor Fair in November.  Sincere thanks to the many old and new friends who stopped by our table to say hello and drop a donation in our jar or bring a new, unwrapped Christmas gift for the Kids.  We closed up shop with 6 full bags of new, warm, winter clothing and $244.77 to add to our shopping fund.

A very special thank you to our friends at TARGET/Manahawkin for their very generous contribution to the LFB Kids Christmas Campaign.

Although the 1st Annual Pumpkin Carving Contest sponsored by Tenampa Restaurant was slammed by the Nor'easter that hit our state, spirits weren't dampened. Attorney Rose Trafton was on hand to judge the entries and said it was a tough job!  We thank General Manager Sharon Good and Tenampa Restaurant for partnering with the Lacey Food Bank and look forward to the 2nd Annual Pumpkin Carving Contest next year!

Captain's Inn in Forked River provided the just perfect setting for a repeat of the much awaited "Psychic Night" with entertainment provided by Charmed and Company.  The LFB Kids Committee wants to thank everyone who came out and supported this event.  The night's net profit of $901 will help us reach our goal of providing Christmas gifts to each of the more than 200 children on our food bank client list.

Amergen donates $3,000 to pay for insuring and registering the Food Bank Van. And bless good ole Jack Ryan from the Recreation Department who keeps it together for us !

ShopRite of Lacey, besides being our  benefactor in so many ways, along with being a major esteemed sponsor,  designates their hot coffee sale proceeds to us.  At 50 cents a cup, they've accumulated over $7,135... And that's a LOT of java.

What a great guy Pat Allen is. Not only is he one of the first to sign up as an esteemed sponsor each year, but he uses his many skills to perform volunteer handyman jobs for our elderly clients - everything from fixing a screen door to replacing a light fixture or thermostat. Pat's our man !

The new Lacey Food Bank Kids Committee collected more clothes and toys than we had room for, so George Broome stepped in and as owner of Lacey Storage , solved the problem with the donation of a lovely roomy unit.  Now the LFB Kids committee happily runs back and forth stuffing it with all sorts of good things .

Another good friend of the food bank down at the Lacey Business park  is Tom Trenholm, owner of RegalPrinting "INKorporated". For the last several years, Tom has printed us thousands of fund raising fliers gratis - which in turn have helped us raise many thousands of $$ to support the needs of the food bank.

We have a good friend at the Forked River Gazette. Thanks to Jennifer, the word has been spread about our Memorial & Celebrations page.. Thanks Jennifer for that and for publishing our schedule each month.

Rich & Margaret Hauswirth , owners of Hauswirth Insurance Agency, are official members of the FOFB (Friends of the Food Bank) along with being esteemed sponsors for the last six years. When the food bank needs a boost, they always come through - with one stipulation, that we do not mention their name. So we don't BUT

Last year, along with two other charities, we received over $1,000 from their referral program. Do yourself (and us) a favor and call them for an estimate on your insurance needs. You'll be pleasantly surprised with the best rates &  the small town personal attention you'll receive. To receive their witty informative newsletter give them a call at 693-3123 and tell them you were referred by the Lacey Food Bank. Then tell your family and friends to do the same

Our newly designed trophies were made gratis by Scott Ritchie from Ocean Trophies. He cleverly worked in our signature shopping cart for our first annual  FOFB (Friend of the Food Bank) award, given to Casey for all the help he and his DEP employees give the food bank.

Volunteer Janet Jordan donated a wshing machine to a desperate client in need of one. Then Pete installed it for her. A many talented chairman he is, for sure.

Thanks to Mayor Quinn for donating his fee for officating at marriages to us.

We are so grateful for all the helping hands from Lacey Township - the office support from township administrator Veronica Laureigh & her staff - Fran & Pat - Casey Parker & his monthly food moving crew sent to us (sheer salvation) - Bud, Jack & Fred, the great guys in  the recreation department who provide transportation and delivery to the housebound.

And finally, the support we receive from the township committee.......We couldn't do it without them
